- "Could be a steak knife. This is a hit and run case, Phelps."
- ―Stefan Bekowsky
Events of L.A. Noire
A large stainless steel kitchen knife made by Sta-Brite, the knife was a strong cutting blade with it's length close to that of a bayonet. Lorna Pattison and Leroy Sabo devised a plan to murder Lester Pattison. One night, while Lester was heavily drunk, Leroy ambushed Lester in the street, outside Ray's Cafe and used the knife to stabed Lester's chest. Staggering from his fatal wounds, Lester ended being hit by oncoming car, which was planned by Leroy and Lorna to cover the murder.
Lester's death was investigated by LAPD Traffic department as a hit and run incident. Initially, Lester's chest wound was assumed to have been a result of collision against a sharp car hood ornament. Meanwhile Detectives Phelps and Bekowsky became suspicious of Lorna and Lester. The Coroner's report later confirmed that Lester was murdered and died from multiple knife wounds to the throax, puncturing his heart. With the recovered bloody knife from the crime scene as well as Lester's insurance letter, Phelps and Bekowsky had enough evidence to convict Lorna and Leroy of murder.
- The player has the option to collect the bloody knife during the first sweep or can proceed to collect it during a second visit. This slightly alters the course of the case's final outcome.
- Finding the bloody knife during the first sweep will earn the player the Stab-Rite Achievement/Trophy.
- There is a set of Sta-Brite knives at Lorna Pattison's residence; upon closer examination, one of them is missing from the knife block. This is presumably the weapon used by Leroy Sabo to murder her husband.
