"That was a hell of a crash we made getting in."
Higgins

"Amateur Hour" is a Traffic street crime case in L.A. Noire.

Situation[]

LAPD Detectives Cole Phelps and Stefan Bekowsky receive a KGPL message that reports a burglary-in-progress with an unknown number of suspects at a high-end jewelry and luxury goods store located near 829 South Olive. When they arrive, it's clear that the thieves are grossly inexperienced, as they have already set off the store alarm by blowing a hole in the back wall, have no lookouts posted, and are still struggling to open the safes in the back.

Dispatch Call Script[]

Dispatch: Any central unit, any central unit, a 459 with possible suspects inside at 829 Olive Street. Unit to handle, Code Two, identify.

Cole Phelps: This is 11K, we'll handle the 459.

Dispatch: Roger 11K, your 459 is at 829 Olive Street at Sillman's Jewelry Store. 11K, Code Two.

Stefan Bekowsky: Why not? You got a good track record with jewelry stores.

Walkthrough[]

After being called to the scene, Phelps and Bekowsky spot the man who planned the robbery, a crook named Higgins, and another man hanging back while safecracker Floyd Walker attempts to break open the safety boxes with Higgins' girlfriend Audrey breathing down his neck. Phelps and Bekowsky call out for the gang to surrender, but Higgins, Walker, and their accomplice grab their weapons and attempt to barricade themselves in the front of the store. Audrey, meanwhile, instantly surrenders and puts her hands on the back of her head.

Bekowsky watches Audrey while Phelps moves into the store. In the front room, behind the counters, Higgins draws his semi-automatic pistol and starts taking potshots. After taking him out, Phelps moves upstairs to the display cases and kills Walker and the third man while they fire on him with a police revolver and a short-barreled revolver respectively. With three suspects down, Phelps returns to find Bekowsky knocked out cold and Audrey attempting to flee in Higgins' getaway car. She quickly loses control of the vehicle, crashes, and is immediately taken into custody.

Trivia[]

  • Prior to the shootout, Higgins yells to "Jake" and "Morty" to help him "blast these cops". However, the safecracker's name is Floyd, so it's possible that "Jake" or "Morty" either refers to himself and the other man or the gang is using aliases (which already seems unlikely given their high degree of incompetence).
  • This is the only case in which killing a female suspect is possible (if you fire at the vehicle). However, the case will be an automatic failure if Audrey is killed while trying to escape since LAPD officers are not supposed to kill unless in self-defense.
