The Westlake Tar Pits are a location and a landmark featured in L.A. Noire. They are a cluster of tar pits around which Hancock Park was formed. The Tar Pits are located at 2630 San Marino St. between Westmorland Ave. and Hoover St. in the Wilshire District. The Tar Pits are featured in The Quarter Moon Murders.
In-Game Description[]
Father Juan Crespi wrote of Los Volcanoes da Brea in 1769. By 1901 archaeological specimens were emerging, including the skeleton of a human female in 1914. Trauma to her skull suggests that she may have been LA's first recorded Homicide.
Events of L.A. Noire[]
In the Homicide case The Quarter Moon Murders, the Westlake Tar Pits are one of the locations associated with the killer's riddles which the player must search for clues in order to eventually find out his wherabouts. Cole Phelps must get through the tar to a small island in order to gain clues, and has to move quickly between the sinking platforms to avoid drowning in the tar.

- The famous tourist attraction which this is based on is named the La Brea Tar Pits.
- While navigating the tar pits, if Phelps leaves the platforms or stays on the walkways for too long he will sink into the tar and die.
- The in-game National Park Services style billboard (located right near where you appear if you have your partner drive there) is actually legible text, though the fidelity is poor and you must angle the camera just so to be able to read it.
