Richard Bates is a character in L.A. Noire. He is a person of interest in the Homicide case The White Shoe Slaying.

Biography[]

Background[]

Bates was previously arrested for sexual assault, but was eventually released and put on parole. While drinking at Baron's Bar, he caught interest in Theresa Taraldsen and planned to sleep with her. Unfortunately, Sailor James Jessop also noticed Theresa, and got into a quick fight with Bates to win Theresa's favor. Jessop knocked out Bates with a single punch, ending their fight. Jessop then left the bar with Theresa, the two of them getting into a cab.

Events of L.A. Noire[]

While later drinking at the bar, Benny Cluff pointed out Bates to Detectives Phelps and Galloway, who were investigating Theresa's murder. Bates ran and stole a car, afraid of violating his parole, but was caught after a brief car chase. After quick questioning, Bates was detained in a cell, but was presumably released after the case ended with Stuart Ackerman's arrest.
