Richard Coombs is a character in L.A. Noire. He is the owner and proprietor of Coombs Automotive.

Biography

Background

Richard bought a Frazer Manhattan from Jean Archer. Unbeknownst to him, the car and Archer were part of a stolen car racket. Archer worked for Steven Bigelow, who employed Archer to drive the stolen cars out of state, so that they could sell the cars in different cities, while providing legitimate pink slips to cover up the intended fraud. However, Archer realized that she could make more money by selling the car. Coombs was suspicious of the car, and he insisted that he pay Archer with a check, rather than cash, as she requested, so that he had time to back out of the deal if necessary. Coombs then re-sold the car to a young man named Cliff Harrison.

Events of L.A. Noire

The LAPD reported the Frazer Manhattan stolen. Detectives Cole Phelps and Stefan Bekowsky successfully located Harrison and apprehended him. When the detectives learned that Harrison bought the car from Coombs Automotive and had legitimate paperwork, Phelps and Bekowsky went to Coombs' dealership. Coombs joked around with the detectives, much to their chagrin. Coombs gave Phelps and Bekowsky a description of, and lead the detectives to Jean Archer.

He is later seen leaving the Examiner Drugstore Bookmakers during the case The Set Up. He presumably had a bet on the Hammond vs. Galahad fight.

  • After Phelps finished questioning Coombs, he can steal any one of the cars for sale at his dealership. Bekowsky will say, "I like your thinking. Let's call it evidence and he can pick it up at the pound later," further showing his annoyance with Coombs and his comedic attitude and antics.
